Ryan teases Budida.

Budida is Ryan’s friend. They often play a game where Budida hides somehwere in the house while Ryan and his mom Celia follow the sound of Budida’s humming. Ryan always wins because only he can hear the song.

Last fall, Ryan, Budida and I spent a fun afternoon jumping on my brother’s bed and trashing his room. We took some snapshots, but I guess my shutter was not quick enough to catch Budida, who was always just outside the frame. But by the end of it, the three of us were BFFs (Best Friends Forever, duh).

Now a completely unrelated story: I have another good friend called Noura. The reason I call her a friend is that we’re both absolutely mad about Dave Brubeck, and anyone with such a burning passion for jazz is good people in my book. In fact, she’s one of the nicest people I’ve never met. You see, we only know eachother on Facebook.

Now one day Noura threw a birthday party for her three-year-old son, and she noticed that one of his friends looked vaguely familiar. As she approached the Mom, she realized who it was and yelled out “Oh my God, Budida!” to Ryan and Celia. Noura had seen our snapshots on Facebook.

I just love when my imaginary friends bring my real friends and my virtual friends together.
